Stoke-on-Trent born actress, and Oscar winner, Rachel Shenton has announced that she is creating a fictional drama, based on the life of women who worked in the Pottery industry in Staffordshire from 1970 onward.
Still researching for her drama, Rachel is talking to former female pottery workers to develop her idea and make the plot as truthful and true to life as possible. This will tell a story she believes has never been told before, and embrace the strength of female pottery workers during the industries prime.
As part of the research, there is an event on Monday the 10th September, 10.30am at Spode in Stoke-on-Trent for past pottery workers to attend and tell their stories. If you have a potters background this is not one to miss!
As part of the moving image sector, we’re happy to hear of plans to showcase the history and heritage of our home town on screen. We often tell Stoke’s history and heritage in our documentaries and are pleased to hear another Stokie story is being told. Most recently, we’re excited to be creating a documentary about women working in ceramics for the next International Women’s Day, and will be collaborating research with Rachel’s drama. This is truly a story to be told and we can’t wait to get started. Don’t miss your opportunity to get involved, see you at Spode!
