We have recently developed an exciting AR mobile app containing both a woodland trail and a character collection game aimed at under 11s! When developing the AR experience for our customer, Weston Park, we researched archives of The House at Weston Park to give the story a historical and authentic hook. The characters and story were inspired by the writings of Lady Diana Bridgeman in the early 1900’s. Each of the characters were given names from the edwardian era and the music for the app was developed using one of Lady Diana Bridgeman’s lyric sheets.
During a walk around the woodland, children can look out for the fairy doors located in 4 openings. Using the app, they can scan the door to reveal the character in augmented reality. The characters include Florence the mermaid, Bernard the gnome, Aurelia the fairy queen and Larkin the elf. You can have lots of fun discovering the characters and taking pictures holding them in your hands.
The app was officially launched during May half term and has already received interest from Midlands Today. There has been great early uptake from guests and we’ve gained brilliant feedback from the users. The app was developed to attract new visitors to the park, as well as encourage repeat visits.
It was a great project to work on and we really enjoyed bringing history to life for a modern young audience. We’re thrilled with the app and, most importantly, the children are having great fun using it!
